JustTap MagSafe Magnetic iPad iPhone Tripod Review [2025]

Introduction

Over the years, I’ve tried several tripods for my iPhone. Most were limited, clunky, and awkward to use, with clips that took too much effort to adjust or fit properly. They were such a hassle that I often gave up and leaned my iPhone or iPad against whatever was nearby just to get a decent angle for recording a practice session or short music clip.

Recently, I started using the JustTap Magnetic Phone Tripod, and it completely changed how I record and practice. In this post, I’ll share how it works, why it stands out from other tripods I’ve tried, and how I use it in my daily music routine to hold my iPad for sheet music or my iPhone for recording practice sessions.

Pain Points of Traditional Phone Tripods

Most smartphone or iPhone tripods don’t work well for musicians, or anyone, for that matter.

They’re either too short to use comfortably while playing your instrument standing or sitting, or they require clamping to a desk or music stand, which limits where you can place them. Many use spring-loaded clips that don’t fit both phones and tablets, and they’re often take a lot of time to attach and adjust.

A big problem is the clip design itself. Getting the phone to sit securely and at the right angle usually takes a lot of effort, and it’s even more of an issue when switching between an iPhone and an iPad. Some tripods only fit smartphones, while others are too small or unstable for a tablet.

If you’re a musician looking for a tripod that can hold your tablet or phone, whether you’re recording a quick practice session or filming a full YouTube video, you need something designed to make that process easier. And you need something designed for you, a musician.

Meet the JustTap Magnetic Phone Tripod

I can’t tell you how thrilled I am with the JustTap Magnetic Phone Tripod by KraftGeek*. The JustTap Magnetic Phone Tripod is simple, sturdy, and designed with musicians in mind.

*I was provided a sample product in exchange for this review, but I absolutely love it and would recommend it to any musician needing a magnetic phone tripod for recording or holding your tablet.

This tripod has a built-in magnetic mount that connects instantly to your iPhone or iPad (or any smartphone or tablet) through MagSafe. For anyone new to MagSafe, it’s a magnetic attachment system built into newer iPhones that lets you snap your device onto compatible mounts. If your phone or tablet doesn’t have MagSafe, you can still use the included magnetic ring adapter to make it compatible.

My iPad didn’t have the MagSafe component, so I centered the magnet ring (included) on the back and now it attaches perfectly.

My only complaint is the manual magnetic ring is that it is a bit “sticky” when attaching or removing from the tripod. The MagSafe magnet that comes with new iPhones and iPads is much smoother when attaching or detaching from the device.

What makes this stand different from the usual iPhone or smartphone tripod is how flexible it is. It extends from about 13 inches to around 66 inches, so you can use it sitting, standing, on your desk, or even on the floor while recording. The magnetic mount rotates and tilts easily, giving you full control over your angle without fighting with clips or clamps.

It’s also lightweight, so you can move it around your studio or take it on the road without adding bulk to your setup.

Since I practice primary with my iPad these days, I have actually started using this in place of the KraftGeek music stand when at home!

    Why KraftGeek’s JustTap Stands Out

This tripod completely changed how I set up for practice and recording.

    Here’s why I love it:

    • Super quick to assemble and collapse

    • Sturdier than most lightweight tripods I’ve used

    • Adjustable height from about 13 inches up to 66 inches

    • Secure magnetic mount that makes attaching devices super easy

    • Works on the floor, on a desk, or as a selfie stick

    • Includes a Bluetooth remote for starting or stopping video recording (a feature I hadn’t seen in other models)

One of the things I love about this magnetic iPhone tripod is how easy it is to set up. Other tripods take a while to get “right”. You have to move the legs around, get the iPhone in the clip, adjust the angle…the phone falls out. It’s a mess!

With the JustTap, it’s as easy as setting up your music stand. The MagSafe attachement is ready to go (no assembly required). The legs easily open by taping the base (aka tapping the bottom of the stick to the floor automatically opens the wings). Within seconds, it’s ready to go.

The build quality feels sturdy without being heavy. A lot of smartphone tripods wobble. The JustTap tripod feels solid on the floor or on a desk, but it’s still light enough to carry between rooms or take on the road. It fits into my Kraftgeek carrying back, or in my gig bag (with my instruments).

Another thing I love is the height range. It extends from about 13 inches to roughly 66 inches, which gives you flexibility whether you’re practicing at your desk, standing with your instrument, or recording a video performance. I’ve used it in every one of those situations, and it’s always easy to adjust to the right angle. This makes it a lot more versatile too.

The JustTap Magnetic Phone Tripod extended for standing range (this isn’t even full height!). This isn’t even as high as it can go! I’d estimate this would work for someone up to 6 feet tall.

The MagSafe mount is something I didn’t even know I needed, until I needed it. Being able to quickly snap it in place, or grab it and go, makes all the difference. I love that they include a magnetic ring for non-MagSafe devices because I was able to use it with my janky-old iPad!

And then there’s the remote. This tripod comes with a small Bluetooth remote for starting or stopping your video or camera. I didn’t think I’d use it much, but it’s a game changer. Being able to start a recording without walking back and forth to my device saves time and way easier.

    Bonus: PowerShutter Bank Stand

I’ve also been trying the PowerShutter Bank Stand, which works a number of levels. If I need my phone propped up on my desk for practice-recording or recording for YouTube, it is super nimble, sturdy, and takes up very little space. Plus, it charges my phone!

For on-the-go usage, I like the handle and quick ability to easily snap an image/video (and again, the fact that it charges).

For me, this device gets most of it’s usage on my desk, or just daily as a general magnetic iPhone stand for whatever! I do a lot of practice recording and quick tutorials (for lessons) while at my desk, and this device fits on my super messy/busy oboe reed desk.

This is a super compact and sturdy magnetic phone stand that fits easily in small spaces - great for music recording, as an every-day phone stand, or on-the-go with the shutter feature.

    Wrap-Up

If you’re a musician looking for an iPhone or iPad tripod that is built for you (a musician), the JustTap Magnetic Phone Tripod is the one I recommend. This is the third tripod I’ve owned, and it far surpasses anything I’ve ever tried.

It’s simple to use, sturdy enough for daily practice, and flexible enough for both home studios and live gigs.

My favorite features are the quick setup (with the magnetic mount), the remote, and the flexible height, which is great for tables, floors, sitting, standing, etc. I don’t use a selfie stick for much, but if I did, it would be great to eliminate the extra tool and have this all combined.

If you need a better magnetic phone tripod, buy this one!
